Audits are held at the offices of shipping companies or charterers while inspections are carried out on board. An audit conducted at an office serves as an internal audit for a management system or Tanker Management Self Assessments (TMSA), for example. The point of departure of an audit is to verify that activities are executed according to the applicable legislation, procedures and instructions, and to introduce improvements where necessary. Transafe’s inspectors are familiar with the relevant legislation, guidelines and best-practices, including
• ADN
• BPR/RPR
• ROSR
• CDNI
• EBIS
• Occupational health and safety
• TMSA
• BIRE
• ISGINTT
• Inland Navigation Regulations
• Other (EU directives and regulations)
On-board inspections are carried out in compliance with a pre-prepared inspection checklist. The point of departure of an inspection is to verify that a vessel’s technical and operational condition is suitable to allow for safe passage, loading and unloading. The inspection may include an alcohol and drug test and training may be offered to the ship’s crew.
