Specifically for ADN experts who want to transport dangerous chemicals, there is the ADN Chemicals course, which leads to the mandatory Chemicals endorsement on the ADN certificate.

ADN Chemicals Course
This course is CCV certified and concludes with an exam administered by CCV (available at various locations throughout the Netherlands). Transafe will reserve the exam location and handle the application in consultation with you.
The ADN Chemicals exam consists of two parts: a case study and multiple-choice questions.

During the lessons, you will have access to ADN legislation (2023–2024). These books can be taken home after the course and used during the exam. A valid ID is required throughout the course. Without it, participation is not possible.
ADN Chemicals Compensation Sailing Time

ADN Chemicals Course - Compensation Sailing Time
To extend the Chemicals endorsement on an ADN certificate, sailing time on a type C tanker must be demonstrated.
No or insufficient sailing time
The endorsement can be maintained by retaking the ADN Chemicals course. This counts as compensation for missing sailing time. No exam is required for this course.
Note: To retain the Chemicals endorsement without sufficient sailing time, both courses (ADN Chemicals and ADN Refresher) must be completed before the certificate expiration date.
Proven sailing time
In this case, only participation in the ADN Refresher course is sufficient to extend the endorsement.
Important: Compensation for sailing time is only possible when extending the Chemicals endorsement. For the first issuance, a sailing time declaration is always required.

All participants receive free access to our online learning environment. Here you will find instructional videos explaining the ADN, the ADN exam trainer, legislation, and our course materials.
The online learning environment is made available digitally via a link after registration.
The course manual serves as a reference and deepening of the lesson material, which will also be presented during class sessions.

This is how cancelling or rescheduling works
You can cancel or reschedule your registration free of charge up to 30 days before the course starts. For cancellations or rescheduling between 30 and 7 days before the course, 50% of the course fee will be charged. Within 7 days before the course, cancellations or rescheduling will not be refunded.
If a CBR exam has been reserved, these costs will be charged in case of cancellation or rescheduling and are non-refundable.
If you are unable to attend one or more course days due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, these days must be made up in a subsequent course to meet CCV requirements. A fee of € 150 per day will apply for rescheduling missed course days.

When can I participate in an ADN Chemicals course?
Participation is possible if you hold a valid ADN Basic certificate with at least the qualification for tank vessels.
What should I bring to the course?
Only a valid ID is required.
Is lunch included?
Yes, this courses includes lunch. Coffee, tea and water are available throughout the day.
Are the ADN books included in the course?
Yes, on the first course day you will receive the current edition of the ADN, which you may keep. The books are also used during the CBR exam.
Where does the exam take place, and do I need to arrange this myself?
The exam takes place at a CBR location of your choice. To reserve the date and location, please contact us by phone. The exam cannot be taken on the final course day but must take place at least one day after the course.
When have I passed the exam?
The ADN Chemicals exam consists of a case study and a multiple-choice test. You pass if you score at least 20 points per part and a total of 44 points or more.
If you score 44 points or more but less than 20 points in one part, you may retake that part only. Otherwise, both parts must be retaken. The exam must be successfully completed within six months of the course.
I passed the exam – what’s next?
After passing the exam, you must submit an application to the CBR. This requires a sailing time declaration from the SAB, proving you have at least 180 days on a type C tanker. These activities must have been carried out within two years before or after the exam. Since 1 September 2023, you must also provide a service record book or skipper’s service book with documented voyages.
Once the CBR receives your application, you will receive a payment request. After payment, the ADN certificate will be issued within two weeks.
I have no or insufficient sailing time – what now?
For the first issuance of an ADN Chemicals endorsement, a sailing time declaration is always required. Without sufficient sailing time, no Chemicals endorsement will be issued.
What is compensation sailing time?
For extending the ADN Chemicals endorsement, sailing time on a type C tanker is required. If you have no or insufficient sailing time, the endorsement can still be extended by retaking the ADN Chemicals course. In that case, no exam or sailing time declaration is needed.
Please note: This is only possible for extension. For the first issuance, a sailing time declaration is always mandatory.
What if I am sick or miss a course day?
All course days must be attended to be eligible for the exam. If you are sick or unable to attend, please contact us by phone. Together we will find a suitable solution to make up the missed day(s). For catch-up days we charge € 150,- per day.
Can I cancel or reschedule the course?
Yes. Up to 30 days in advance this is free of charge. Between 30 and 7 days before the course, 50% of the fee will be charged. Within 7 days before the start, cancellation or rescheduling is no longer possible and no refund will be made.
